The Vatican 2 documents are the issue - they have ushered in the apostasy we are living thru - the wording of these documents is filled with errors, ambiguities, and trap doors that deny and lead away from the dogmatic boundaries of the Catholic Faith. Se per i lefebvriani la scelta di procedere allo scisma era inevitabile, date le condizioni, la storia vista dall’altra prospettiva racconta innumerevoli tentativi di ricomporre il possibile scisma, compiuti dall’allora Prefetto della Congregazione per la Dottrina della Fede, il Cardinale Joseph Ratzinger, e da Giovanni Paolo II.
Tanto che nel 1988 la soluzione sembrava vicina e possibile. Dopo una visita a Ecône del Cardinal Gagnon l’8 aprile, Giovanni Paolo II, in una lettera al Cardinal Ratzinger, delineò una proposta che avrebbe permesso alla FSSPX di ottenere una collocazione regolare nella Chiesa: un accordo – firmato a maggio – relativo all’uso dei libri liturgici approvati nel 1962 e alla costituzione della FSSPX come “Società di vita apostolica”. In cambio, Lefebvre promise di obbedire al Papa e di accettare il Concilio Vaticano II, riconoscendo anche la validità dei nuovi riti della Messa.
Ma la frattura si creò comunque quando Lefebvre, a cui era stata negata l’autorizzazione a ordinare un vescovo che gli succedesse nella Fraternità, ritrattò e decise di ordinare comunque quattro vescovi il 29 giugno 1988, senza il consenso di Roma. Per evitare l’ordinazione illecita, Papa Giovanni Paolo II concesse finalmente l’autorizzazione. Non fu sufficiente. Lefebvre scrisse il 15 agosto che aveva bisogno non di uno, ma di tre vescovi. La rottura era inevitabile. Iniziò un lungo dibattito fino alla revoca della scomunica dei vescovi ordinati senza il consenso di Roma, voluta da Benedetto XVI, nel 2009.
