Leo XIV Promotes Bishop Who Helped Neutralize the Chiclayo Abuse Case
Pope Leo XIV today accepted the resignation of conservative Archbishop Samuel Aquila, 75, from Denver and appointed James R. Golka, 59, as his successor.
Monsignor Golka was appointed bishop of Colorado Springs by Pope Francis in April 2021. In June 2025, El País described Golka as having “similar ideological leanings as Pope Francis.”
When Golka became Bishop in Colorado Springs, the Peruvian priest Ricardo Coronado-Arrascue was serving as judicial vicar and chancellor of this diocese.
A Peruvian Canon Lawyer with Ties to Prevost
Coronado is a former Peruvian Augustinian friar who left the order in 2001 to become a diocesan priest. He knows Robert Prevost well, and the two have had tensions in the past according to CruxNow.com.
In May 2022, Coronado resigned his offices in Colorado Springs, and a settlement agreement was signed between him and the diocese.

Cardinal Cupich submitted his request for resignation two years ago. Not a good look for Pope Leo. The American laity request Cupich’s replacement in this era of synodality and listening. He has done untold damage to the Church
So errant conservative priest and Bishops are dealt with swiftly and without ability to appear ie Frank Pavone.
Alphabet soup friends promoted no matter how heretical or scandalous.
Greetings. I've been visiting this website, Gloria.tv, for months now, and I recognize that you have the courage to say what most media outlets keep silent about or ignore. For that, I congratulate you and it's only right to thank you. However, I don't understand the purpose of articles like this one. Let's suppose that previous popes had appointed good and holy bishops and Leo only made terrible appointments; in that case, I would understand. But we know very well that this isn't the case, that all the popes have filled the episcopate with unworthy men, and that there are hardly any good bishops, nor have there ever been. The vast majority of bishops are bad and traitors to Christ. Why then dedicate an article to each bishop appointed by Leo, saying that he is bad when every reader already knows this? Do you really think that if he had chosen another bishop to fill that see it would be better? I mean, what Leo is doing, any other pope would have done because there aren't any good bishops to choose from—nor good priests, nor good cardinals...
All recent popes - including Benedict, even Pius XII - appointed terrible bishops. We lost the Church here. Glad that someone points that out.
yes, even Pope Benedict appointed many Bishops, who today have come out of the closet to promote the rump-ranger agenda.
I congratulate the people who post these kind of articles, to enlighten the Eastern and Oriental Church, who also are reading these posts.
If there is ever going to be Unification, then why hide all the dirty laundry?
It appears that the Novus Ordo and used car salesmen have something in common.
