How Canada's MSM has been bought by the Liberal government

Back in 2018, The Liberal Justin Trudeau decided to create a bailout fund. Its purpose was to help struggling newspapers and other news outlets who were having a difficult time competing with news and services provided online. There was also a decline in advertising in print publications. The package was $596 million.
In 2019, the subsidy included tax credits for news rooms and subscriptions. In addition, the Canadian Journalism Labour Tax Credit helped to pay 35% of the salary of those employed in the newsroom. In 2025, the funding was legislated into law with the passage of the
Online News Act (Bill C-18).
The obvious question is this: how can the MSM in Canada get funding from the governemnt and not compromise editorial independence? They can't; most don't, and they shouldn't. Both freedom and democracy rest on facts and truth.
