The Diocese of Mbanza Kongo has rejected the suggestion that the letter represents its faithful. Angolan Catholic commentator Paulo Viana believes the dispute may actually be about dissatisfaction with Bishop Vicente Carlos Kiaziku, whose health problems have kept him away for extended periods, and the battle over his eventual successor.
